Families will soon be able to compost Grandad as the Church of England is considering eco-friendly alternatives to burial and cremation.

Bereaved families will have the option to request “human composting” or “water cremation” services.

Mixed with woodchips, sawdust, straw and alfalfa, decomposition by microbes takes less than 60 days to produce “soil”.

A church committee will also look at “water cremation”, using hot water and an alkali which reduces the body to a biofluid and ash in four hours.

Bishops were asked about “theological objections” to the eco-friendly processes by the Rev Canon Andrew Dotchin, from Suffolk, at the Church’s General Synod governing body.

James Convery, of the UK Society of Celebrants, said: “I think someone will be doing it before the end of the year.”

This news came after a woman claimed she spent five years in heaven after being clinically dead for 15 minutes.

Dr Linda Kramer experienced herself dying in 2001 as she was being treated by paramedics – an experience she spoke about during a YouTube interview.

She said: "That's when I found myself standing in what I termed the the field of flowers. I was observing the mountain range 30,000 times huger than Mount Everest.

"There's a huge mountain range over in the back of wherever I was. I could see buildings with skyscrapers. Dubai are like little miniature huts in comparison. I saw lakes, I could see everything in a panoramic view.

"So I'm there interacting with people, talking to people, becoming them."

Dr Kramer said that she was able to visit anywhere in the world by just thinking about a place.
