A California man found himself trapped in his truck when a bear cub tried to break in after smelling his freshly bought corned beef.

Footage shows William Duvall repeatedly pulling his vehicle door shut as the animal tries to join him for a bite to eat.

The video was recorded on outside the Duvall family home in Sierra Madre, a common spot for bear sightings.

‘As soon as I started to open the door, both of the cubs were coming down,’ he told ABC7 in an interview, adding they had probably gotten a whiff of the delicacy

Mr Duvall said he has ‘just come back from the market’ to pick up some fresh corned beef when, pulling up his driveway, he was greeted by a family of bears.

‘As soon as I started to open the door, both of the cubs were coming down,’ he told ABC7 in an interview, adding they had probably gotten a whiff of the delicacy.

Terrifying video then shows Mr Duvall wrestle with one of the cubs that tries repeatedly to open his door, as he tells the animal to ‘get, get’ through the window.

His dog can be heard nervously barking out of shot.

Mr Duvall says that the animal tried to open the door three or four times before it ‘kind of got the message’ it wouldn’t be getting in ‘because I locked the door’.

The two curious cubs were visiting Mr Duvall’s property on March 17 with their mother, a long-time resident of Sierra Madre, a city in Los Angeles County in the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley below the southern edge of the Angeles National Forest.

Bear sightings in southern California are not uncommon recently as other residents spotted them in residential areas.

In November, fellow Sierra Madre resident John Holden returned home to discover that his front door was wide open, and inside found a bear scarfing down a bucket of KFC chicken on his kitchen counter.

Holden also noticed another bear outside the house and said at least one more was inside. He got the uninvited guests to leave by making loud noises.

‘I’ve had a lot of other encounters with them,’ Holden told ABC7. ‘I’ve actually had them bump into me a couple times in the backyard, but definitely never in the house like that.

‘That was something else and they sure made a mess of the place.’
