Astronaut Barbie dolls launched into SPACE to encourage girls to study science

BARBIE’S new outfit is out of this world as a pair of the dolls visit the International Space Station.

Their get-up evokes Jane Fonda’s cult 1968 sci-fi Barbarella.

They were blasted into orbit in a bid to encourage girls to pursue aerospace and STEM careers — and “reach for the stars”.

The dolls are modelled after NASA scientists Katherine Johnson and Sally Ride.

Lisa McKnight, Global Head of Barbie and Dolls, said: "It is important that we encourage girls to reach for the stars and pursue careers in aerospace and STEM.

"With help from the International Space Station National Lab team, we are reminding girls that not even gravity can hold them back."

The Queen is immortalised as a BARBIE doll for Platinum Jubilee

The Queen was last week immortalised as a Barbie doll for her Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen Elizabeth II Barbie Doll comes with an ivory gown and blue riband adorned with decorations of order.

Her miniature tiara is based on Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara — famously worn by The Queen on her wedding day.
