Amanda Knox begs freed Meredith Kercher murderer to ‘restore my reputation’

Amanda Knox has begged Meredith Kercher's released murderer Rudy Guede to "restore my reputation".

Guede has been released 14 years after the British student's murder in the Italian city of Perugia.

The killer is the only person who has been convicted over the crime.

Suspicion also fell on Meredith's roommate Knox and the latter's then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito after Meredith's highly-publicised murder in November 2007.

The pair were eventually cleared after a lengthy legal battle.

On Tuesday, Guede was released from prison after he served 13 years of a 16-year sentence for the rape and murder of Meredith.

Guede has always denied his guilt, but now Knox has stated that the convicted killer holds “tremendous power to heal others harmed by his actions”.

She added: “He has the power to tell the truth, to take responsibility, to stop blaming me for the rape and murder of Meredith Kercher, which a wealth of evidence shows he committed alone.

“Were he to actually acknowledge his responsibility, it would bring closure to the Kercher family, it would end the murky speculation around this case, it would restore my wrongly damaged reputation, and that of Raffaele.

“His honesty would also end the slanted media coverage, which endlessly repeats the phrase ‘the only person who remains convicted of killing British student Meredith Kercher’ which is true, but implies that there were multiple responsible parties.

“People change. Has Rudy? They say the truth will set you free. Today he’s free, and he has yet to tell the truth, allowing others to continue bearing the burden of his guilt.”

Guede was originally sentenced to serve 30 years in prison, which was later reduced to 16 years on appeal. His release date was brought forward by the Italian legal system.

At the time, Amanda was furious that Rudy Guede, the man who continue to maintain his innocence and blame Amanda was allowed to walk free.

“I am not upset that Rudy Guede is free. I’m not upset that journalists who continue to vilify me to this day are instead humanising him, quoting his lawyers who claim he is ‘calm and socially well-integrated,’” she wrote in a Medium post.

“I’m upset that he’s never acknowledged his crimes, that he’s never been held fully accountable, and that I continue to bear the burden of his infamy.”

Guede reportedly wants to write to Meredith's family to apologise for "not saving her life" as he continues to insist he did not kill her, the Sun reports.
