Kate Hoey claimed it was the “logical thing to happen” for Ireland to leave the 27 member bloc due to a change in attitudes from Irish citizens thanks to the benefits the UK gets from leaving. Baroness Hoey, a former Labour MP who is a now non-affiliated peer, added: “I feel that you know, every day there’s something that you think, goodness, we can do that now and we need to be able to grab on to that.”
The peer referred to the success of the UK’s vaccination programme as a Brexit success and added: “We just have to look, the one thing now I think has united the country is the way we handled our vaccinations.
“And that would not have happened if we’d been in the EU.”
Referring to the Republic, Baroness Hoey claimed Ireland “will probably decide to leave” in the short term following the UK’s departure.
She stressed to The Telegraph Chopper Politics Podcast: “There’s a big debate starting there.
“And I think that is the logical thing to happen, that the Republic of Ireland leaves the European Union, now they’re a contributor.”
Brexiteer Hoey has also expressed her opposition to post-Brexit trading arrangements in Northern Ireland.
She is due to speak at a loyalist rally in Co Down focusing on legal action against the Northern Ireland protocol.
The Protocol is the result of the Brexit divorce deal signed by Boris Johnson, which effectively keeps Northern Ireland in the EU’s single market in order to avoid a hard border with Ireland.

Ms Hoey, who is from Co Antrim recently spearheaded a legal challenge against the Protocol over fears it is dividing the UK along with former MEP Ben Habib.
Speaking today ahead of the rally, she claimed the EU, which she branded as a “foreign administration” shouldn’t be making rules for Northern Ireland.
The Peer continued: “Everyone living here who believes in the Union must speak out and make their opposition clear.
“We cannot allow the internal market between Great Britain and Northern Ireland to be so disrupted by totally unnecessary checks and a border erected between two parts of the UK.

“The judicial review which myself, Ben and others are taking against the protocol is one way of fighting back but everyone has a role to play.
“These protests will continue and grow until our Government stands up to the EU and protects the integrity of the UK.”
It comes as the UK sought an extension to temporary measures allowing sausages to cross the Irish Sea due to the Protocol.
Restrictions on shipments of chilled meats are due to come into force when a grace period expires at the end of the month.
The UK has now formally requested an extension, allowing sausages, burgers and mince to continue being sent from Great Britain to Northern Ireland until September 30.
