Watch: Jared Polis swears in for second term as Colorado governor
Gov. Jared Polis will swear in for his second term Tuesday morning.
Polis stewarded the state through the most acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the social and economic turmoil that resulted from it. For his second term, he made lowering Colorado’s crime rate a top priority. He requested stiffer penalties for car thefts, an effort legislators are likewise pursuing. Polis also celebrated recent voter-approved cuts to the state income tax. He also hopes to further trim it and make recent property tax cuts permanent.
Voters decisively re-elected the Democrat in November after a first term in which he helped usher in free full-day kindergarten and caps on insulin costs. The Democrat-controlled state government also launched initiatives aimed at lowering costs on the individual health insurance market and free preschool for part of the week for Colorado’s 4-year-olds.
Before serving as governor, Polis launched several tech companies, served on the state board of education, and as a congressman representing Northern Colorado.
While Tuesday will include the swearing-in ceremony, remarks and a concert in the evening, he will deliver his State of the State address to the legislature on Tuesday.
