Voters want Boris Johnson to stay on as an MP in frontline politics, a new poll has revealed that supporters still believe that he could make a comeback as Prime Minister. The findings by Techne UK for Express.co.uk come as some Tory MPs are already privately discussing deposing Liz Truss if her new tax slashing economic policy fails to turn the British economy around.
The findings in the exclusive poll revealed that 57 percent want Mr Johnson to continue as an MP compared to 29 percent who do not.
This is despite the negative press he received over the Partygate allegations in Downing Street and Ms Truss appearing to tear up his legacy and policy platform.
Surprisingly, even people who voted Remain in the 2016 election strongly support him staying in politics with 59 percent only slightly behind those who voted Leave on 61 percent.
There is also still enormous support for him among Conservative voters with 74 percent opposed to him quitting.
There has been speculation that Mr Johnson may give up his Uxbridge and South Ruislip seat in London and cause a by-election, similar to what Davd Cameron did after he left Downing Street in 2016.
Reportedly, Mr Johnson is working on a book and looking at making money touring the US and giving talks.
He was also said to be “very down” at the speed and nature of his departure from Downing Street, effectively being forced out in a coup by Tory MPs.
But Conservative Party members were furious at the way he was ousted with thousands signing a petition demanding a vote on whether to keep him.
The petition organised by former party treasurer Lord Cruddas and The Conservative Post got more than 15,000 signatures.
However, the party only recognised around 8,700 as genuine members slightly below the 10,000 threshold needed for a rule change to be initiated.
But Lord Cruddas and his supporters have vowed to force a change of the rules which will democratise the party and give members the final say in the future.
He also believes that Mr Johnson can be reinstalled as leader at a future point.

Already there are divisions among Tory MPs and talk of a possible coup if things go wrong for Ms Truss.
After Friday’s mini budget which was described as “a gamble” with £105 billion of tax cuts over the next few years, many Tory MPs were delighted but others thought it would be a disaster.
One described it as “the first truly Conservative budget in more than three decades.”
But another said: “Colleagues are talking. If this goes wrong there will be letters [to the 1922 Committee] to trigger a contest early next year.”
The issue of tax cuts dominated the leadership contest with Ms Truss’ rival former Chancellor Rishi Sunak describing her plans as “immoral”.
There is resentment among his supporters that she did not try to reach out after the election and did not give any of them a ministerial job.
The poll was taken on September 14 and 15 with 1,624 adults interviewed.
