Poll result: Should Boris Johnson be suspended over Partygate saga?
Boris Johnson erupts at ‘complete nonsense’ in Partygate grilling
Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson could be suspended from the House of Commons if it is decided he intentionally misled MPs during the pandemic. A cross-party privileges committee of MPs is investigating Mr Johnson’s actions during the Covid lockdowns. If he is found guilty, he will have breached the ministerial code and risk being sanctioned which includes provisioning a written apology, docking of salary or suspension. A new Express.co.uk poll has shown a majority think he should be suspended for his actions.
On Wednesday, March 22, Mr Johnson gave evidence to the committee in a televised hearing, following the submission of his 52-page written evidence. Mr Johnson admitted he accepts his comments were misleading but denied he made them intentionally.
If Mr Johnson is suspended for 10 days or more, this would result in a recall petition, with electorates in his Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency able to trigger a by-election.
In a poll that ran from 11am on Wednesday, March 22, to 12.30pm on Wednesday, March 29, Express.co.uk asked readers: “Should Boris Johnson be suspended over Partygate saga?”
A total of 22,398 votes were cast, with 58 percent (13,010 people) answering “yes” compared to 42 percent (9,329 people) responding, “no”. Meanwhile, 59 people said they did not know either way.
