In July of 2022, Nicola Sturgeon and her husband Peter Murrell will celebrate 12-years of marriage. The Scottish National Party (SNP) Leader tied the knot with Murrell, who is the current chief executive of the SNP.
The couple, who have been together since 2003, were married in a civil ceremony at Òran Mór, in Glasgow’s West End.
The venue was a bar and restaurant that used to be Kelvinside Parish Church.
At the time, the Daily Record reported that the then-Deputy First Minister had vowed to keep the wedding a “low-key affair”.
Sturgeon opted for a classic, yet elegant ivory halter neck wedding dress which is reported to have been from Dream Brides in her hometown of Irvine, Ayrshire.
Her mother Joan Kerr Sturgeon told local media: “Nicola was keen to come back home and find her dress from an Irvine bridal shop.
“She didn’t want a fancy meringue-style dress and has said from the outset she didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a dress as she didn’t think it was important.
“So we had a budget and within two hours, Nicola had found her dress.”
She added: “Nicola is not a girl who wants a lot of fuss and although she is in the public eye every day, to us, she is just our Nicola and we are all looking forward to her getting married to Peter.”

Sturgeon did not wear a veil and instead chose a delicate, detailed hairband.
Her hair hung straight and loose in a bob around her shoulders.
She added a touch of sparkle to her outfit with a fine, silver necklace.
Mr Murrell opted for a grey, black and purple kilt, and a matching lilac tie.
Though the wedding was not to be an overly extravagant affair, there were some key names in attendance.
The Scotsman reported that First Minister Alex Salmond was among the guests at a wedding reception, which was held at the same venue as the wedding ceremony.
He was joined by the then-finance secretary John Swinney and education secretary Michael Russell who were also at the evening event.
The SNP wedding was also attended by family, friends and party colleagues.
Along with taking place just three days before her 40th birthday, Sturgeon’s wedding to Mr Murrell also coincided with her niece, Harriet Nicola’s, fourth birthday.
As a result, Sturgeon is said to have kept this in mind when choosing her wedding cake.
Instead of a traditional fruit cake, The Daily Record reports that she selected a chocolate cake crafted by Scottish teacake producers Tunnock’s.
In 2020, Sturgeon posted a romantic throwback on the couple’s 10th wedding anniversary.
Taking to Twitter, she shared a picture of the couple from their big day.
Mr Murrell also shared a tweet, stating: “3,653 days and counting…”
The First Minister then retweeted this post, writing “10 years” alongside a love heart emoji.
