Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has dismissed her previous Remainer stance on Brexit as the Conservative minister told Mr Robinson she would have now backed Leave in the referendum. The senior Tory penned a string of global deals as the international trade secretary has told the BBC presenter that Britain was having already having a “huge impact.” She stresses that a lot of the moves the UK was now making diplomatically would have been impossible while still a member of the EU.

Mr Truss told the BBC’s Political Thinking with Nick Robinson: “In retrospect, I would have voted for Brexit.

“Because I think it has given us huge freedom and flexibility as a country we didn’t have before.

“And in particular on foreign policy, we now have the ability to coordinate our development policy or trade policy, our defence policy and our diplomacy together.

“And we can and are having a huge impact.”
