The SNP’s John Nicolson accused Tory MPs of “not wearing masks” while in the House of Commons and grilled Mr Berry on why a “majority of MPs are not wearing them”. Mr Berry hit back that the coronavirus vaccine should be left to “do the work”.
Speaking on BBC Politics Live, Mr Berry replied: “We are obeying the law of the land and in England you’re not required [to wear masks].
“Let’s talk about the issue of the day which is the Omicron variant.
“We don’t know how serious it is. I am a believer in the vaccine.
“I think the British public believe in the vaccine, people should get vaccinated.

“If we believe in the vaccine, let the vaccine do the work.
“Don’t start locking people up for Christmas, don’t start taking away our liberties.
“This is absolutely the wrong thing to do and there would be more variants.
“People need to live with Covid.”

All Covid-19 vaccines have so far proven to be safe, effective and life-saving.
But scientists have yet to determine if it fully protects against the new variant, which is already causing panic across the globe.
After red-listing a number of countries from southern Africa, the UK has now reimposed mandatory masks in England from Tuesday.

Mr Berry said that the vaccine is effective and that a return to lockdown over Christmas would be the “wrong thing to do”.
Covid infection rates began to rise gradually in some European countries, leading to the reintroduction of fresh restrictions and lockdown.
This has triggered fears that Britain could follow the examples of Austria and Holland and do the same soon.
