Jenrick insists ‘we have proof’ Starmer is conspiring with lefty asylum lawyers
Robert Jenrick says lawyers offering services to illegal migrants
Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick warned that Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is in cahoots with the lefty lawyers who are abusing the asylum system.
The comments came as Mr Jenrick said that the punishment for lefty lawyers “gaming the asylum system” needs to be much tougher and see their operations shut down.
Currently the punishment is fines of up to 5 percent of earnings for legal firms abusing the system.
But Mr Jenrick told Camilla Tominey on GB News this morning: “They should be struck off”.
Striking off lawyers means that they can no longer practice in the UK.

Asked about “lefty lawyers gaming the system”, Mr Jenrick said: “You should be struck off as a lawyer if you flagrantly abuse the law.
“I hope that is what will happen to those solicitors and legal representatives who have been caught in the [recent] exposes.
“The solicitors regulatory authority is taking action against those firms and we [in the government] are saying we want that to continue and issue fines appropriately.”
He added: “As a former solicitor I have been shocked by the level of abuse I have seen in this area of the law.
“But I’m afraid what we have seen is just the tip of the iceberg.”

Asked if Starmer “is conspiring with those lawyers”, Mr Jenrick claimed that there is proof.
He said: “There is evidence of that.
“Just this week we have seen an allegation that a Labour councillor in Newcastle who is also a legal representative was on TikTok apparently soliciting illegal migrants to come to her and she would help them stay in the UK.
“I think that will be news to her residents in Newcastle who probably want, like I do, secure borders and controlled migration.
“But it is an example of what the Labour Party really thinks and as far as I can tell, absolutely nothing has been done in respect to that lady.”
Mr Jenrick also hit out at “Labour hypocrisy” after it emerged that two Labour councils in birkenhead and Leith in Scotland blocked having the two cruise ships meant to house illegal immigrants while their asylum applications were being handled.
He pointed out that Labour policy would see a “massive increase in the small boats even higher than it is now” but wondered why abour was unwilling to help house asylum seekers.
