Following the publication of Ms Gray’s report, Mr Johnson was forced to apologise to the House of Commons for a series of lockdown breaking social gatherings at Downing Street. Ms Gray’s report concluded that there had been “failures of leadership and judgement” by Number 10 in allowing the gatherings to go ahead.

Speaking to Dan Wootton, Mr Farage argued that Mr Johnson’s visit was a “wonderful diversionary tactic” but that he arrived in Ukraine with “zero credibility”.

He said: “For Boris of course going to Ukraine was a great thing.

“A wonderful diversionary tactic after the extraordinary scenes in the House of Commons yesterday.

“I can’t recall a debate where a British Prime Minister clung on to the fact that a police investigation into criminal behaviour was the only protective shield that he had.

“He went there today with zero credibility because of dissembling dishonesty over the last few months.”

Mr Farage went on to blast the “boozing culture” in Downing Street which has caused a political crisis that has distracted the Prime Minister’s reputation.

He said: “About the parties that took place, about the boozing culture that he as the boss allowed in number 10.

“He was when many think we are on the verge of the biggest military conflagration since 1945 in Europe.

“Unable to speak to the Russian President because he was taking abuse in the House of Commons.”

Mr Farage also went on to praise Vladimir Putin and blasted the west for expanding the European Union and NATO that he described as “poking Russian bears with sticks”.

He said: “He’s a very canny, very sharp political operator and the west has had this wrong for 30 years.

“Our constant desire to expand the European Union and NATO right up to the borders of Russia has been a geopolitical error.
