Elon Musk claims people could ‘lose the meaning of life’ when AI slashes jobs
Elon Musk has questioned how people will “find meaning in life” when artificial intelligence makes every job redundant.
The boss of X/Twitter claimed AI will be the “most disruptive force in history”.
Speaking to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, he said: “There will come a point where no job is needed. You can have a job if you want a job for personal satisfaction but the AI will be able to do it.”
He added: “I don’t know whether that makes people comfortable or uncomfortable.”
The room, filled with business leaders, members of the media as well as the Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt, burst into laughter.
Mr Musk added: “One of the challenges will be how do we find meaning in life.”
He said computers will be able to do jobs that humans find “tedious” or “challenging”.
The Prime Minister discussed the speed of the technology’s development, China’s invitation to the UK’s AI Safety Summit and the risks of AI.
Mr Sunak, who rolled up his sleeves for the interview, which will air on Mr Musk’s platform X, said his job is to “protect the country” by testing AI models.
