A Scottish shellfish supplier has slammed the export paperwork required to ship fresh produce to the European Union after Brexit. Jamie McMillan raged against the “madness” of the forms which cost time and money to complete. The fisherman explained how trying to run his business in the Scottish village of Tarbet in the face of new custom arrangements had left him “exhausted” and fearing for his employees’ jobs.
Mr McMillan said: “This is the paperwork to send products to the EU.
“Paperwork, paperwork…it is just madness.
“It’s so much a waste of paper, a waste of time…
“A waste of environment, a waste of cost.

“That’s three hour’s work every morning that we export to the EU.
“Three hours work to do all that paperwork.”
He continued: “In simple terms to export to China, Hong Kong or Singapore, it is cheaper and quicker to export there than it is to France.
“So we are pushing sales in the UK and pushing sales into the Far East to try and compensate for what we’ve lost in Europe.”

He has grown concerned that the red tape will cost his staff their jobs.
Mr McMillan said: “They are not only our work colleagues but our personal friends as well you know.
