Taylor Swift officially cancels Lover Fest tour because of ‘unprecedented pandemic’
There is bad news for Taylor Swift fans hoping to see the star in person.
Swift shared on social media Friday that her anticipated Lover Fest world tour would be canceled and could not be rescheduled.
“I’m sorry, but I cannot reschedule the shows that we’ve postponed,” the “Love Story” singer wrote. “This is an unprecedented pandemic that has changed everyone’s plans and no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future.”
The world tour originally set to begin August 2020 was first postponed due to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Although refunds have been available since we first postponed the Lover Fest shows, many of you hung onto your tickets and I too hung onto the idea that we could reschedule,” she wrote Friday.

Back in May 2020 the singer attempted to satiate fans with a one-night only ABC airing of pre-recorded “Taylor Swift City of Lover Concert” from September 2019 where she played some of the songs from her then new album “Lover.”
Since the announcement and postponement of the Lover Fest tour, the musician has created and made plans for new projects like releasing surprise album “Folklore” and her plans to re-record older songs after her public licensing battle with music exec Scooter Braun.
Despite the rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations, stars like Swift, who originally planned to continue concert plans in 2021, are now thinking to the next year. The annual South by Southwest music, film and tech conference is going virtual this year after being canceled in 2020, The Weeknd’s After Hours World Tour will now kick off in January 2022 after a an original 2020 start date and Coachella and Stagecoach have both been canceled for a second year in a row.
While Swift won’t be able to put her talents on the main stage this year, she may be able to take on the virtual Grammy stage as she enters this year’s award season with six nominations including album and song of the year.
