Dogecoin, known on the market as DOGE, has gathered value exponentially, quickly approaching the dollar over the last few months. The currency is an altcoin, a lesser-known token created as an alternative to mainstream versions like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Millions of people have committed to the currency, especially Tesla CEO Elon Musk, whose influence has stirred the cryptocurrency market’s already unsettled waters.

Could miners use electric cars to create DOGE?

Elon Musk has briefly axed Bitcoin payments for Tesla models but held on to the company’s supply.

He has since asked his 50 million-strong Twitter following whether they would like DOGE to take BTC’s place.

A majority offered their support, and they have since come up with an unusual method of producing tokens.

One fan wrote: “Maybe cyber trucks and other future @Tesla vehicles could mine #Dogecoin or even @bitcoin while charging.”

Another added: “We will all buying Tesla if we can mine #dogecoin.”

Mr Musk has not announced or backed plans like this yet, but it appears possible.

One of Tesla’s rival companies recently revealed it is working on a car that can mine coins.

Daymak, a Toronto-based firm, has announced it will create a car capable of mining “a multitude” of currencies.

The Light Electronic Vehicle (LEV) manufacturers said they have a patent-pending concept named the Spiritus, which could do the job.

The car, which Daymak wants to launch in 2023, will make up part of the Daymak Avvenire series and include mining in the user interface.

Each Spiritus would form a node in the blockchain of a mined currency, Daymak explained.

The cars will also include a Nebula Miner and Wallet for storage.

Daymak president Aldo Baiocchi said the ambitious vehicle would streamline payments both on and off the road.

They could also help give cryptocurrencies real-world application.

In a release from the company, he said the cars would have “limitless” applications.

Mr Baiocchi said: “We envision a future where your highway tolls, your parking, and your drive-thru order will be paid directly on the fly with crypto.

“Your online bills and your banking can be handled through the same software platform paid in crypto.

“And whereas most vehicles are depreciating while they sit in your garage, the Nebula Miner will make you money while your Spiritus is parked.”

He added: “The potential applications are limitless.”
