A young mum was allegedly carved open by her pal who then stole her baby, according to reports.

The friend allegedly lured Flavia Godinho Mafra, 24, to a fake baby shower before cutting the child from the body.

Flavia was found dead on Friday in Santa Catarina, Brazil.

An autopsy confirmed Flavia had died from cuts to her abdomen and injuries from a brick.

She was 36 weeks pregnant when she died.

According to reports, the friend admitted to having a miscarriage last year and became obsessed with stealing a child.

Flavia was a substitute teacher, and was hit over the head with a brick before the reported theft.

The woman, who allegedly worked with an accomplice, took the baby to hospital where the couple were arrested, it is reported.

The baby is receiving medical treatment in hospital, reports NSC Total.

It is not yet known if the baby was taken from the mum while she was dead or alive.

Flavia got married in October last year and the family were excited about the arrival.

Two other pals were invited to the baby shower but were then told it was cancelled.

The family called the police after Flavia did not return from the baby shower, and a search was launched that carried on through the night.

Her body was found by her husband and mother, according to Brazil reports.

A funeral has since been held by her distraught family on Saturday.

Because of her risk to coronavirus due to diabetes, Flavia had been away from work in recent months.
